Water Moccasin
(Cottonmouth)
Akistrodon piscivorus piscivorus
From: Southeastern Midwest
Size: to 5ft
Diet: mammals, fish, amphibians
The Water Moccasin belongs to the same genus as the copperhead but
has a much more toxic venom. It will hold its ground and gape its
mouth exposing the white (cottony) interior, which looks very white
against the dark color of the rest of the snake.
